Beloved in Japan, this species is almost non-existent in cultivation throughout the rest of the world. The silky foliage of this sp. is similar to that of the sensitive plant (Mimosa pudica) in that its leaves open with the advent of sunrise and close with the onset of sunset, a phenomenon known as nictonasty. These plants produce cloud-like, yellow flowers that yield black and red seed pods.
